The PEI Beekeepers Association has historically held an introduction to beekeeping course for the past four years starting in January running for 8 weeks.  This year we decided to do something different.  We will be having a full weekend course in person starting on April 11th and ending April 12th.  The course will be instructed by the PEIBA President, Troy Fraser along with Island beekeepers and guest speakers.

We are moving away from the online zoom classroom instruction model to deliver a more hands on approach which we are hoping will be more interactive and enjoyable.

Online registration for this course will open on February 1st on a first come first serve basis as seating will be limited by the venue capacity.  Cost will be $200 per person.  We are still working out the details on the location at this point.

You will learn various beekeeping topics such as:

  1. woodenware, hive parts and tools
  2. hive inspections
  3. making splits and swarm control
  4. spring management
  5. integrated pest management and diseases / control
  6. queens and intro to queen rearing
  7. honey extraction
  8. pollination opportunities
  9. commercial vs hobby beekeeping
  10. preparing for winter

You’ll get the opportunity to meet and mingle with Island beekeepers and ask questions as well.

We are very excited for this opportunity to bring beekeeping to a physical classroom opposed to a virtual one.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
